About IBHBOT

The International Board of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is an independent certifying body and professional registry for hyperbaric and diving medicine, organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

What IBHBOT Does

  • Owns the curriculum: one IBHBOT course for each credential
  • Writes and administers examinations through an independent examination committee
  • Issues credentials and keeps the public registry
  • Approves training sites and trains their instructors to teach the IBHBOT course
  • Hears complaints and appeals through an independent process

How Decisions Are Made

Training site approval. A site evaluator inspects each applicant facility and its instructors and prepares the file; an approval committee decides. The evaluator does not vote.

Examinations. An examination committee of practitioners writes and owns every exam. No training site or instructor writes or reviews exam questions.

Passing standards. A panel of practitioners sets each passing standard using an accepted standard-setting method.

Discipline. Complaints are heard by board members with no involvement in the matter, and every decision can be appealed.
