Associate Hyperbaric Nurse and Hyperbaric Nurse Specialist
The IBHBOT nursing credentials, for RNs and LPNs who complete the Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine course. The AHN is earned with the course and the IBHBOT board exam; the HNS adds documented clinical experience.

Nurses apply for the nursing credential only. The technician credential is for people without a license and for allied health professionals.
The Board Examination
A timed online examination covering hyperbaric physics and physiology, indications and contraindications, chamber systems and safety, and the nursing care of the hyperbaric patient: assessment before, during and after treatment, complications, and documentation.
Hyperbaric Nurse Specialist
An AHN becomes a Hyperbaric Nurse Specialist by documenting clinical hours in a hyperbaric facility and passing IBHBOT’s portfolio review, signed by a qualified preceptor and the facility’s hyperbaric medical director or program director.
